Firstly, we see avout, what is actually the term 'Polyhouse'. And after that we will see about the difference between polyhouse and greenhouse, benefits of polyhouse farming, and types of polyhouse.

It has been estimated that the product yield by using polyhouse or greenhouse farming can be achieved at a higher level that means about 4 to 8 times more as compared to farming done in open field. And therefore, farmers must think of setting up a polyhouse rather than just working on open farming.

What is a polyhouse?

Polyhouse farming

In simple word, Polyhouse or Greenhouse is a house or a structure that are prepared from the translucent material or glass or polyethylene where the plants grow and develop under controlled climatic conditions. The size and height of polyhouse can differ from small shacks to big size buildings as per the required. The technique behind this is that-  the inside part of the greenhouse become hot when exposed to sunbeams as the house stops the greenhouse gas to leave. So when it is cold outside, the temperature inside is survival friendly and warm for the plants.

Difference between Greenhouse and Polyhouse Farming :

Now, let us consider about the difference between polyhouse and Greenhouse. Polyhouse is a part of greenhouse or we can say that it is a smaller branch of greenhouse. In polyhouse, polyethylene is used as the cover. In growing countries like India, polyhouse farming is a most famous than greenhouse technology because of its low price of building and simple or easy maintenance. And for your kind information- Lath house is one more greenhouse technology where wood is used as the cover.

Polyhouse have low price as compared to greenhouse due to the small structure or construction but the later greenhouse is more long-lasting than polyhouse.

Crops that are usually grown in Polyhouse-

Benefits of Polyhouse Farming-

Benefits of polyhouse farming

1)  Polyhouse is very applicable for the farmers mainly those who prefer organic farming. Here, we can aree about the some benefits of a polyhouse:

2) Our plants are grown under controlled temperature and hence there is low chances of crop loss or damage.

3) We can grow crops throughout the year and will not have to wait for any particular season.

4) There are less amount of attacks of pests and insects in a polyhouse.

5) Outer climate will not have any effect of the growth of crops which are under the polyhouse.

6) Quality of production is obviously higher in polyhouse.

7) Better drainage and aeration.

8) Propagation of Ornamental Crops can also be done effectively in a polyhouse.

9) Polyhouse gives the right environmental facilities to our plants in any of the season.

10) It also enhances production yield for about 5 to 10 times greater than normal farming.

11)  Here is Less cropping lifetime.

12) Fertilizer application is easier and is controlled automatically with the help of drip irrigation.

Types of Polyhouse-

According to environmental control process, polyhouse are classified into two types:

1) Naturally ventilated polyhouse-

Naturally ventilated polyhouse or greenhouse do not have any environmental control process except for necessary ventilation and fogger system to save the crops from bad weather conditions and also to protect the natural pests and diseases.

2) Environmental controlled polyhouse-

Environmental controlled polyhouse are builded primarily to enhance the growing life of crops or to rises the off-season yield by controlling the light, temperature, humidity, etc.
